Julianne Keenan Simpson
Julianne Keenan Simpson, DPT joins us with a background in general orthopedics with a sub-specialty in treating pelvic health conditions. Originally from Massachusetts, she received her BA in History and Theater from Oberlin College in Ohio. Drawn by music, mountains, theater, weather and the outdoors to the NW, she ultimately received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Eastern Washington University.
Her first exposure to physical therapy was following an ultimate Frisbee injury. With the help of her amazing physical therapist, she returned to her sport more fit and armed with knowledge of how to stay safe on the field. After several years of consideration, she decided that a career change to physical therapy would allow her to combine her love of people, movement, health and one-on-one education.
Her sub-specialty in pelvic health allows her to treat people with all types of pelvic dysfunction, with particular interest in the peripartum year, incontinence, problems with intercourse, constipation and low back, hip or pelvic pain. She has trained at the Herman & Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute, completing the basic education through the Capstone course.
Julianne listens to patients’ full stories. Knowing the big picture lets her treat the whole person. Using her experience, current research and an understanding of her patients, she prescribes personalized treatment plans. At subsequent sessions, Julianne digs deeper, finding movement patterns, connective tissue restriction or muscle imbalance that contributes to movement related conditions. Through continual patient-related education, supervision, and progression of a plan of care, Julianne strives to help her patients understand their bodies and lead healthier, more movement-rich lives.
Julianne and her husband’s home life revolves around their two young children. They all enjoy trips to the farmer’s market, cooking, cycling on a cargo bike, camping, dance, playground trips (Yes, she is that mom on the monkey bars!) and learning more about animals, dinosaurs and trucks. When she has adult time, Julianne enjoys Ashtanga yoga, surfing in PNW waters, multi-day bike rides, rock shows and cooking complicated meals. She dreams of raising her children to be kind, cycling over the Alps and surfing in Alaska.
